Three years later, Dr. Johnson purchased the clinic from Dr. Poole. Dr. Johnson has worked in the veterinary field since 1984, giving him over 30 years of experience. His professional interest is surgery, including orthopedics and advanced soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Johnson’s favorite part of working at Archer Veterinary Clinic is being a part of the community and caring for its pets. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Johnson loves spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His favorite hobbies are gardening, do-it-yourself projects, and enjoying the outdoors.

She graduated with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at St. Matthew’s University and earned her Bachelors of Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Julia Shorter

DVM

Dr. Shorter was born and raised in the beautiful Rocky Mountain basin town of Boulder Colorado. She completed her undergraduate studies at Colorado State University, earning her bachelor's degree in Biomedical Medical Sciences and Equine Sciences. Dr. Shorter remained adjacent to the mountains to obtain her Veterinary degree from Colorado State University of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. With a great passion for all shapes and sizes of animals, Dr. Shorter is licensed as a Mixed Animal Practitioner. This means that she can practice medicine on both large animals (such as farm animals) and also our smaller household pets such as dogs and cats.

More specifically, Dr. Shorter adores soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and pain management (especially geriatric care). Dr. Shorter is also a strong believer in client education, from the very basics such as nutrition and behavior to more advanced chronic disease management. A strong believer in teamwork, Dr. Shorter loves working closely with her clients towards the shared goal of keeping their furry family members happy and healthy!

In her spare time Dr. Shorter continues to surround herself with animals, loving to spend time outdoors with her 3 dogs and 2 ferrets, who are harness trained! Additionally, she continues to ride her horse, although they are both retired from their previous career in jumping. Watching movies and painting are also some of her favorite past times. She is ecstatic to be able to join the amazing Archer Veterinary team and provide your loved ones with the very best care!
